3 Tips On How To Care For Your Invisalign Aligners

So, you’ve just got your brand new Invisalign aligners, but now it’s time to make sure you take good care of them. Check out these 3 tips on how to easily maintain your Invisalign clear braces:

1. Eating and Drinking Etiquette – What happens before, during and after you eat and drink will have a major effect on the condition of your Invisalign aligners. They are never to be worn while eating, although they can be worn for drinking. However, it is important to take them out if drinking hot beverages, since the heat can result in warping or damage. Also, remember that Invisalign aligners can easily be discolored by colored drinks, so it is recommended to use a straw when drinking sodas or any other drink that has the capability to stain the aligners. It is always important to put the trays back in after meals, as they are only effective when worn for a sufficient period. Also, ensure that you brush your teeth before putting them in, to safeguard against stains from residual food that may be left in the mouth. Source: Jaklin Bezik

2. Look for signs of calcium build-up – Inspect the retainer for any calcium build-up. Like your teeth, retainers are susceptible to tartar (calculus) build-up. Calcium build-up appears as a cloudy white film on the retainer that is hard to remove with a toothbrush.

If you notice any calcium build-up, soak the retainer in a denture or retainer cleaning solution as instructed on the package. The Invisalign website sells a cleaning product designed specifically for Invisalign retainer called the “Invisalign Cleaning System”. Source: About Health

3. Brush the aligner – Use toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, just as you would when brushing your own teeth. Gently brush away any food particles on both sides of the aligner. Clean it thoroughly. Source: wikiHow
